Cartographer (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website at cartographer.studio. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and who we share it with.
Data We Collect
Account information
When you sign up, we collect your name and email address via Google or GitHub OAuth. We do not store your OAuth provider password.
Content you create
We store the projects, story maps, cards, and any other content you create within Cartographer. This data is necessary to provide the service.
Usage analytics
We use PostHog to collect anonymized usage data such as page views, feature usage, and session information. This helps us understand how people use Cartographer and improve the product. PostHog processes this data in the EU.
How We Use Your Data
- To provide, maintain, and improve Cartographer
- To authenticate you and secure your account
- To power AI features (e.g. AI-assisted story map generation)
- To understand product usage and fix bugs
- To communicate with you about your account
AI Features
When you use AI-powered features, your content may be sent to third-party AI providers (currently Google Gemini, via Cloudflare AI Gateway) to generate responses. We do not use your content to train AI models.

Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your data within 30 days. We may retain anonymized, aggregated analytics data indefinitely.
Your Rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us. If you are in the EU, you have additional rights under the GDPR including data portability and the right to object to processing.
Cookies
We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. PostHog may set analytics cookies to track usage across sessions. You can disable non-essential cookies in your browser settings.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice on our website.
